The West Suburban Symphony welcomes these exceptional instrumental and vocal soloists to our September 2011 - May 2012 concert series.
JOHN CONCEPCION, tenor, is a sought-after and versatile operatic and concert performer and teacher. He has performed with Lyric Opera of Chicago and other opera companies throughout the country, with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and other orchestras across the Midwest, and with Chicago's Ars Musica chorale. Notable recent appearances include Bach's Mass in B-minor, Handel's Messiah, DuBois' Seven Last Words of Christ, Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, Mozart's Requiem, Blow's Venus & Adonis, Rameau's Les Indes Galantes, and Rorem's Homer. Currently a full-time chorus member at Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Grant Park Festival Chorus, he also teaches voice in the Theatre Conservatory at Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts.
PAUL GRIZZELL, baritone, has been heard throughout Germany, England, and the United States. He has appeared in concert with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and in the Lyric Opera's world premiere of Amistad. His repertoire ranges from Baroque music to 20th century classics to Broadway hits.
ELIZABETH NORMAN, soprano, has charmed Chicago audiences in her regular appearances with the Grant Park Symphony, the Chicago Sinfonietta and Bach Week in Evanston. Nationally, Ms. Norman has appeared at the White House and the Kennedy Center, as well as with the symphony orchestras across the country. Internationally, she has performed in Europe, Israel, and several African nations. A member of the voice faculty of Roosevelt University, Ms. Norman first appeared with the West Suburban Symphony in May 2008.
REBECCA SCHORSCH, soprano, has appeared extensively as a soloist in the Chicagoland area with The Illinois Philharmonic, Bach and Beyond Festival, Northwest Symphony, Salt Creek Synfonietta, Accessible Contemporary Music and the Chicago Civic Orchestra. She also has been heard live on WFMT Chicago on the Pianoforte Foundation Salon series. Ms Schorsch is a member of the voice faculty at Roosevelt University. Her community service projects have included teaching and directing for the Lyric Opera of Chicago's OperaKids! Program and writing and co-producing the Chicago Opera Quiz presented by the Department of Cultural Affairs and broadcast on WFMT. For her many contributions, Ms Schorsch was recognied in Chicago Magazine's prestigious "Best of Chicago" 2008 Edition.
STEPHEN SEIFERT, dulcimer, has been a featured performer at hundreds of dulcimer festivals and other music events in the United States and Japan since 1991. He has appeared as dulcimer soloist
with the Nashville Chamber Orchestra, now known as Orchestra Nashville, since 1996 and is featured on their Warner Classical recording of Connie Ellisor's Blackberry Winter, a concerto for mountain dulcimer and string orchestra that is regularly heard on classical radio stations. He also has performed this piece with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, Tucson Symphony Orchestra, and Montpelier Chamber Orchestra. He is an active dulcimer teacher and has authored ten books, four CDs, and 16 instructional videos.
JESSYE WRIGHT, mezzo-soprano, is admired for her rich, colorful voice - a rare instrument with both brilliance and depth - as well as her impeccable musicianship and striking stage presence. She was one of four mezzos earning distinction as an "Upwardly Musical Artist on the Move" in Symphony Magazine's early 2010 Guide to Emerging Artists. She has performed in concert with leading orchestras and choral groups across the country and abroad, and has received rave reviews for her opera performances. This is her first appearance with the West Suburban Symphony.
