THE PASSIONS AND TOILS OF EVERYDAY LIFE are captured in this music from three centuries: Carmen Suites 1 and 2 from Georges Bizet’s 1875 opera about the legendary gypsy temptress; Samuel Barber’s lyrical 1936 Symphony 1 in One Movement; and Michael Daugherty’s intense 2003 Fire and Blood violin concerto in three movements - Volcano, River Rouge, and Assembly Line.
