We open our season with dazzling music rooted in the rhythms of dance. George Gershwin's pulsating 1925 Piano Concerto in F, with a Charleston dance beat and elements of the blues, anchors this concert, with soloist Melanie Brsan. Florence Price's 1932 Symphony 1, inspired by African-American dance and spirituals, is both lyrical and fiery. Rounding out the concert is the soaring Suite from Cecille Chaminade's 1888 Callirhoe ballet. Listen here: Chaminade, Gershwin, Price.
