DVORAK. ELGAR. STILL.
Local tunes passed down through the generations lie at the heart of this concert, reflected in engaging music for orchestra and chorus. William Grant Still's 1930 Afro-American Symphony is built around blues progressions and rhythms. Edward Elgar's 1894 rollicking suite of songs, From the Bavarian Highlands, recalls a family vacation in the villages of southern Germany, and Antonin Dvorak's 1878 spirited Slavonic Dances celebrate Eastern European folk music. Listen here: Dvorak, Elgar, Still.
